Frequently asked questions
Question
What method does Direct Dutch use?
Answer
We use the direct method, which means that we try to speak Dutch as much as possible during the lessons. (Since some aspects of the grammar will be explained in English, it is important that participants of beginners courses have a basic knowledge of English.) In small groups (max. 8 people) we will concentrate on the speaking and listening skills, whereas the reading and writing skills are taught by means of the homework.

In all courses we pay much attention to the social and cultural aspects of the Netherlands.

Question
Do I need to pay extra for the course materials?
Answer
No. We designed our own course materials and they are included in the course fee, (except the NT2 course).

Question
When and where are the courses held?
Answer
We offer daytime and evening classes. They are held at our institute in The Hague or in-company.

Question
Can I switch from one group to another, e.g. from a morning to an evening class?
Answer
If you started a morning course, we would prefer you to finish that course. However, if for personal or professional reasons you cannot attend that course anymore, we can put you on a rejoiners list and try to find another place for you. This may mean you will have to wait for a while.

Question
Are your teachers native speakers of Dutch?
Answer
Yes, all our teachers are native Dutch speakers and attended the Direct Dutch teacher's training course.

Question
I didn't do a course but picked up a little Dutch. How can you assess my level?
Answer
You can do our Test Your Dutch assessment on this website and after that make an appointment for an oral test. This will only take about twenty minutes and is free of charge.

Question
How can I find out when the next course is starting?
Answer
The starting dates of the intensive courses can be found on the enrolment form. For the other courses, please call us.

Question
How do I enrol for a course?
Answer
Please fill in and submit an enrolment form if you wish to attend a beginners course, an intensive beginners course, an intermediate course, an intensive intermediate course, or an advanced course.
Enrolment form
By sending an enrolment form you commit yourself to the conditions stated in our general conditions. Please read them carefully before submitting your form.

You will be contacted four to six weeks before the start of the course to confirm your attendance.
