Semi – Intensive beginners A2

For our Intensive Beginners course – online we have divided our regular 60 hour Intensive Beginners (A0 – A2) course into two separate courses: A0 – A1 and A1 – A2.
The Intensive Beginners A1 – A2 builds on the Intensive Beginners A0 – A1 and is meant for students who already know some Dutch, but are still missing a solid grammatical background and vocabulary knowledge to communicate properly in Dutch. Within two weeks, the students will have dealt with the entire elementary grammar of Dutch, building up a vocabulary of about 1000 words. More importantly, they will have practiced their communication skills extensively, discussing a wide range of topics. After this course, students will be able to communicate effectively in Dutch and provides a solid background to continue developing their language skills independently or in an intermediate course.

Online classes

With our online classes we offer:

  • The same approved (direct) method of teaching Dutch.
  • A virtual classroom with a teacher and a maximum of 6 students.
  • Real time audio and video.
  • Smaller groups with a maximum of 6 students (compared to 8 in our regular classes).
  • A video conference setting with room to ask questions, practise your speaking skills and interact with- and listen to other students.
  • Interactive tools: virtual whiteboard, screen sharing, document sharing, real time notes and more.
  • Course material, sent to you by post (no charge) or you can pick up your book at Direct Dutch Institute
  • You can find more info about our online classes here.

Method

Our classes are based on the direct method. This means that all classes are highly interactive and focus on communication. New words and structures are introduced by means of question and answer series. Dutch is spoken in class from the very first lesson (although some points of grammar may be explained in English to save time). Reading and writing are taught by means of practical (homework) exercises.

Culture

At Direct Dutch, we believe that it is impossible to separate a language from its cultural context. There is an important role for Dutch culture and aspects of Dutch society such as history, geography, politics, arts and media throughout our courses.

Prerequisites

This course does not require any prior knowledge of Dutch. Knowledge of English is required to attend the Beginners course.

Examination

At the end of the course, there will be a multiple choice test assessing your level of Dutch. Upon handing in this test, you will receive a Direct Dutch certificate, stating you have completed the Beginners A2 (CEFR) course. Please note that the certificate is only a general indicator of the proficiency level. Read more about the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) here.

Starting dates

Choose your preferred date & time to enrol. After you completed the enrolment form you will hear back from us by email. If you don’t receive an email within two working days, please send an email to info@directdutch.com.

All classes continue as online classes! If you sign up for an online course, your course will remain online until the last lesson (we won’t switch back to a regular – classical – course in the middle of a course).

We hope to be able to organise regular (classical) courses in September 2020.

Our regular Intensive Beginners course (at Direct Dutch Institute) will continue once the corona safety measures are no longer necessary (hopefully in September!). Are you interested in signing up for this classical course? Please find all the information about our regular Intensive Beginners course here.
